Roadmap & Future Releases

Q: Can you share information about the roadmap for mobile apps?
A: We don't have a separate roadmap for desktop and mobile — there is one unified roadmap, which has already been shared on the forum. As mentioned earlier, the roadmap will be updated again after we collect community feedback through the upcoming survey, and the latest version will always be available on the forum.
Q: Is relationship modeling on the roadmap, or should we model relationships as first-class objects? The current model (types, properties, tags, collections, sets) maps well, but we need relationship objects, not just properties with cardinality and direction.
A: There is already a lot of architectural and relationship-modeling discussion happening in the Collections 2.0 prototype thread on the forum, and many community members have shared what would best fit their needs. Realistically, we have to pick a model and run with it rather than try to fit every use case. The best approach is to check the video and prototype on the forum, click through it, and if it doesn't fit your needs, write up a concrete use case or case study describing how you need to use Anytype. From there we can discuss whether the current system covers it, or whether an upgrade is needed.
Q: Will Collections 2.0 enable calendars and similar views to be viewable on embedded collections on mobile pages one day?
A: At a high level, Collections 2.0 is mainly about a new architectural information system — the way you organize things in Anytype. Views like calendar, timeline, etc., are part of the broader initiative to improve collections and will come in due time, but they're not what we're explicitly referring to when we say we're changing the system itself.
Q: Are there any plans to update the API to allow subscriptions to specific objects?
A: Yes, there are plans for that.
Q: Are there any plans to support math functions across types? (e.g., for a medical bill tracking system)
A: This would be a combination of formulas and roll-ups, both of which are on the roadmap as part of Collections 2.0.
Q: Will there be a formula column or property similar to Notion?
A: Yes, formulas are on the roadmap, along with roll-ups and many other things that are all part of Collections 2.0. You can find the full outline in the "Collections 2.0 outline" forum post.

Editor & Architecture

Q: When the survey lists "fix the editor box," does this mean focusing on the current editor (1.0) or Editor 2.0? Personally I don't mind waiting longer if it means focusing on Editor 2.0.
A: The visualization shown on the presentation was just a general example — the actual survey will be much more specific about what you want us to focus on. For the most part, rebuilding the editor (Editor 2.0) is a much larger enterprise that takes a lot longer. Specific small bugs or fixes can absolutely be addressed quickly in the meantime. Bigger things like transclusions, syncing blocks across objects, and similar are all part of the Editor 2.0 initiative. We'll make this clearer when the survey goes out, and you can always message us with your exact thoughts.
Q: Would you consider enabling the creation of custom blocks — basically templates that are not directly objects (like snippets)?
A: Snippets are a very good idea and something we've been thinking about. They're not on the roadmap currently, but Editor 2.0 could deliver them.
Q: Could it be considered to have a non-optional relationship between objects? For example, if Type A has a property dedicated to Type B, then enforce that it is not empty.
A: Making certain things mandatory is not currently on the roadmap. It's more of a UX challenge than anything else, but it could be a consideration if many users need it.
Q: When an AI model edits a note where I've ordered properties or changed table spacing, my edits are reversed and tables go back to standard proportions. Will this improve so that an edit doesn't reset the format?
A: This is because we don't have a block-level API yet — we take the markdown and bring it back through the API, which doesn't preserve those stable properties (which is why you see squeezed tables, etc.). We don't think this will be solved soon.

Integrations, API & AI

Q: I have Claude connected via MCP. I just checked and it doesn't seem to be accessing skills. How do I operationalize the agent skills?
A: You need to follow the link to our new skill setup, which is basically a markdown file plus a JavaScript file. Claude will guide you through installing it properly on any platform and through the Anytype API authorization. Use this directly instead of MCP — it should work better than MCP in the end.
Q: Are there any plans to turn Anytype into a message gateway for agents (e.g., a gateway with Telegram, WhatsApp)?
A: Yes, it's on our plate — specifically in the API. The chat part is currently missing and we just discussed it today. There's no exact delivery date yet, but the API will definitely include this because we need it ourselves for our own agents. Once available, you'll be able to use it with whatever agent you like.
Q: Any thoughts on e-paper or e-ink tablet integrations (reMarkable, Boox, etc.)?
A: A portion of the community would probably murder us if we did that before launching tablet support on Android and iOS, so it's not happening anytime soon. Tablet platforms that we're already working on remain prioritized first.
Q: Are there any plans to support self-hosted notifications without relying on Google or Apple services — for example, in places like mainland China where Google services aren't accessible — in a more secure way?
A: There are no plans for this right now, because it takes significant time and resources, and it primarily affects self-hosters. We may revisit it in the context of voluntary plans for self-hosters in the future, but no plans for now.
Q: Does Anytype allow integrations with Proton Calendar?
A: Currently no, but it's an integration we see as very viable. If a lot of users tell us Proton is high-value to them, we can prioritize this integration.

Mobile & Tablet

Q: Are there any plans for text-size adjustments on iPad and iPhone? Anytype doesn't seem to support iOS dynamic text, which would at least let me control it from the iOS side. That's a basic accessibility consideration — an in-app setting would also be nice.
A: This isn't going to be a top priority given that people are already pushing hard for tablet support, but we'll note it as something to address in the future.

Features & Functionality

Q: How will the basic collection work — is it AI-powered?
A: The actual implementation of what powers it isn't decided yet. We're still in the design phase, making sure we have the right solution that people want before implementation. So we don't have an accurate answer for that today.
Q: Is there any plan for a whiteboard function like Affine or Miro?
A: A native whiteboard is not on the near-term roadmap, although we recognize it's frequently requested. In the meantime, the Excalidraw embed has been improved recently and should be more usable now — you should also be able to use deep links for objects within Excalidraw, which lets you do some of the basics. But a true native whiteboard built in-house is not on the roadmap right now.
Q: Can I subscribe to changes in the vault and run some code in response?
A: Currently there's no API for subscriptions — you cannot subscribe to changes. You'd need to build an agent or program that schedules itself to come in and check recently edited objects to detect what's new. Subscription functionality doesn't exist today.
Q: Are you planning to add an ability to connect to multiple self-hosted networks of Anytype?
A: Yes, there are plans, but it's not in the near future. It's a multi-year design and implementation effort. We have it in mind and understand it's important for some users.
Q: Is there any way for users to test new developments like Collections 2.0 and the Anytype Agent — even if it destroys our data and eats our computers? Is feedback wanted?
A: Yes, feedback is absolutely wanted. We're planning to do a community outreach in the future, asking people to join a wait list. Once we have something ready to be tested, we'll share it with that group to collect structured feedback. This is in the works.
Q: Why isn't it possible to translate the names of standard object types like Tasks, Notes, etc.?
A: System object types currently can't be renamed for technical interoperability reasons. We'd be curious to hear why you'd want to change them and what the underlying need is — if it's a common need, we can figure something out.
Q: When a published web link is opened from Anytype, will it open in the same browser tab (be "relational")?
A: Post-town hall review: Yes, we can change it so that links on web published objects will open in the same browser tab. We assume this is what is being asked
Q: Some Anytype use cases (even personal) start to look close to a CRM/ERP. Are there plans to improve managing bulk records — bulk update fields, rename fields, templates, etc., to better manage content at scale?
A: We're making small upgrades here and there for bulk editing — for example, you can now upload a folder of images directly into a collection. But we're not focused on turning Anytype into a specialized CRM/ERP system, so massive bulk update workflows are unlikely to be deeply optimized. We see the potential for small teams, but for massive organizations this is not our focus right now. As a workaround, agents are very effective for batch updates and database organization in the meantime.
Q: Can the alpha version of Anytype be a separate installer that isn't linked to my current Anytype account, allowing a fully separate second instance? Currently I have to switch my single beta install to alpha to help test, which has no auto-update and breaks my regular use.
A: We don't currently do quality assurance on nightly versions because they build every night, so providing them as a parallel install isn't something we're set up for today. Noted that this is inconvenient for those who want to help.
Q: Would it be possible to have user configuration per space? (e.g., a different displayed name in a work space vs. a friends-and-family space)
A: Different per-space profiles are not on the roadmap. Your vault, key, and identity are tied together as one primitive, so changing per space isn't simple. We could implement something eventually, but it's not on the roadmap right now.

Business & Open Source

Q: Is there any way to provide code contributions?
A: Yes, the relevant repos are open source, so it's definitely possible. That said, lately some contributions we've received have been hard to review and sometimes take more time to evaluate than to accept. Our general architecture and review process isn't built around heavy external contribution. Many people are contributing well already — if you think you can be helpful, we welcome it, but please pay attention to the quality of contributions.
Q: Will Anytype open-source the technology within a nonprofit org with the for-profit running practical activity within a different legal entity?
A: We currently have several entities in our structure, and we're figuring out exactly what the future structure looks like. We're committed to open-sourcing the current version of Anytype — it's just a question of timing. The intellectual property would sit in a nonprofit organization. We have many ideas around the exact mechanism and will share them once they're cooked. Worth noting: with our current source-available licenses, you already have full access to your data and forever access to the software — even if Anytype as a company disappeared tomorrow, you can still run the software. So this open-source step is a further move in that direction, not a sudden change in the protections you have today.
Q: Is Anytype going back to a full co-op without investors?
A: No. We currently have investors, but we still control the org. Long-term we've always envisioned Anytype as a cooperative where developers, contributors, investors, and users could all participate — a kind of digital cooperative. We're not there yet, and before we go in that direction we want to reach sustainability as a business first. Maintaining ownership matters to us so we can keep making the right decisions according to our principles around local-first user data.
Q: Is there any way to support Anytype financially as a self-hoster — like a lifetime license for self-hosters?
A: Right now the best way is to make a donation, which would be fantastic. As mentioned, self-hosters can technically use Anytype completely for free without paying anything.
Q: Have you thought about on-premise installations for universities and other government entities (e.g., to be GDPR compliant)?
A: Yes, we've thought about it, but it's not something we're actively exploring right now because it would require significant team resources. If you have specific needs, especially around university usage, feel free to email or message directly and we can try to figure something out — but it's not high on the roadmap at the moment. If anyone has concrete leads on universities or government orgs that would be interested, we'd love to hear about it; we're happy to spread Anytype as far as we can.

Community & Other

Q: I'll be writing my thesis at university soon. What research topic should I choose to make it useful for Anytype? I'm currently researching distributed systems.
A: Great question — hard to answer immediately, but we'd love to discuss this directly. Join the community in Anytype and DM the team; we have several very interesting topics we could suggest. One area that's particularly interesting to us is consensus-free security — how to manage access control in a peer-to-peer system robustly without centralized consensus. Reach out and we'd be happy to brainstorm.
