Roadmap & Future Releases

Q: What is the status and ETA of roadmap features?
A: While specific details are available in the full roadmap post on the community forum, items listed under "Coming Up Next" (like applying templates to existing objects) are expected in the next public release, roughly within 2 months. Items "On the Horizon" will follow that cycle.
Q: Can you clarify the difference between "On the Horizon" and "Ongoing Upgrades"?
A: "On the Horizon" means we are technically not actively building it yet, but plans to start after the current cycle (approx. 2 months). "Ongoing Upgrades" refers to work happening continuously in the background across every release, such as search improvements, sync performance, and battery usage optimization, which don't have a single specific release date.
Q: Do you have plans to implement Global Search?
A: Yes, this is currently "In Exploration" and we recognise it's important—expect us to actively work to deliver it.
Q: Is there an ETA for moving objects to other spaces?
A: We are exploring this. It is a priority and may come in the next 2 to 4 months.

Editor & Architecture

Q: Is there documentation or examples for Anyblock? The current markdown bodies make it limited for building small meta apps on top of Anytype.
A: We are currently exploring a new "Editor 2.0" project. When designing this, are keeping extendability in mind to provide special primitives that allow developers to build experiences on top of Anytype reliably. We do not recommend using the current Anyblock format as it will be phased out in favor of the new system. We plan to communicate these ideas and ask for feedback in the coming month.
Q: Can we make it so references to an @object in the editor display the entire text in the preview? Currently, having to enter a note to see missing words is frustrating.
A: This is a limitation of the current editor architecture and will be addressed in Editor 2.0. However, in the current release, we are upgrading backlink capabilities underneath to be "more typed." In future releases, we will figure out how to properly display this information in the backlink pop-up.
Q: Will we soon be able to associate properties to blocks and reference them in collections?
A: No, this is not coming soon. The current architecture does not allow for this; it can only be achieved with the future Editor 2.0 architecture.
Q: Will you implement automatic content previews on card covers in the Gallery layout?
A: This will be possible with Editor 2.0. While definitely possible and planned, it is not scheduled for the next 4 months.
Q: Given the number of bugs fixed and new features implemented in the editor in the latest update, I’d like to understand how all this work on the current editor isn’t counterproductive — or even wasted — considering we know the editor will be rewritten from the ground up for Editor 2.0.
A: It’s happening in parallel. We’re currently discussing the technical architecture for Editor 2.0, and it may take some time before Editor 2.0 is implemented. In the meantime, fixing bugs in the current editor is much faster compared to developing the new one.

Integrations, API & AI

Q: I am looking for a privacy-first tool for note-taking during calls (like an AI note-taker). Is there a way to integrate tools like this with Anytype?
A: It is already possible to build this integration using the API (e.g., via cloud code) in about 30 minutes. Internally, we are also thinking about a "call recorder" feature that would automatically place call data inside Anytype.
Q: Will the API support Anyblock so AI can non-destructively edit objects?
A: Yes, we’re planning to support this.
Q: Is there a plugin marketplace for 3rd party creators planned?
A: This is important and connected to the Editor 2.0 project. We are thinking about how to make the system extendable via plugins while keeping it secure, as plugins can introduce security risks. It will definitely come at some point, but there is no committed date.
Q: Are there thoughts on protocol integrations, such as Tim Berners-Lee’s Solid protocol?
A: There are no plans for this right now as we do not see a specific use case that intersects with what we are currently building.
Q: Can we get a live Notion integration to migrate pages overnight?
A: We are exploring how AI could help connect different systems for better import/export, but there are no specific comments right now. It is possible a community member could build this.

Mobile & Tablet

Q: When will recent features like advanced filters and toggled headings make their way to mobile (Android/iOS)?
A: These specific features should be released very soon, potentially within this week or the next. However, generally speaking, mobile and desktop are not at full feature parity yet.
Q: Are there plans for controlling indentation levels on Android?
A: Yes, there are plans for this, and it should be released soon.
Q: Previously, sharing pictures created a new note; now it adds to existing pages. It is inconvenient to make a new note with a picture now. Can we have a "Create new object with this content" button?
A: There are plans to add the ability to add a picture directly without it being connected to a page (at least on Android/Desktop). We will explore the specific request for a button, though we aren't sure yet if that is the best solution.
Q: How far away is tablet support for iPads?
A: There are no specific plans for iPad tablet support yet, though Android tablet support is happening. This needs further discussion internally.

Features & Functionality

Q: When can we expect fine-grained permissions?
A: This is extremely difficult due to Anytype's local-first, end-to-end encrypted nature compared to typical cloud products. It is not happening soon, though technical assessments are being done.
Q: Are you going to embed audio and video calling into chats?
A: There are no current plans. While we moved from Slack and misses this, we observe that most people still use Zoom or Meets. We need more community feedback explaining exactly why this is needed inside Anytype to reconsider.
Q: Are there plans for Flashcards (Question/Answer with related objects)?
A: This is not currently on the roadmap.
Q: Have you considered implementing time management methods like Gantt charts or Pomodoro timers?
A: There are no official plans for either. However, once the "Timeline" layout is launched, creating a Gantt view might be relatively easy.
Q: Any chance of being able to embed web pages inside an object (e.g., an online calendar)?
A: Technically it is possible, but it is considered extremely insecure (e.g., risk of malicious code in shared spaces). It is not supported right now but may be considered when we work on the plugin architecture.
Q: Any news on whiteboards?
A: There are no current plans as it is not seen as a priority. The focus is on making the basic experience shine first.
Q: What about tags and nested tags?
A: This is a major architectural discussion. No decision has been made yet as it adds complexity to the system.
Q: Is there any plan to rewrite Anytype in something like Flutter and Dart for universal feature parity?
A: No. While Flutter is a great framework, we find it immature for the specific functionality we need. It remains more optimal to build three different codebases (Desktop/TypeScript and Native Mobile) to achieve the desired quality of experience.
Q: Are there any plans to improve the UX of the calendar view (drag and drop)?
A: Drag and drop is already available for properties that can be edited. We’re planning to implement more updates, such as items stretched across multiple days or week/year views, but these are not planned for the near future.

Business & Tech Stack

Q: Are you hiring?
A: Yes, general hiring plans exist (an AI engineer was just hired). If interested, you can reach out directly.
Q: Are there plans to make subscription options more attractive for those who missed the last deal?
A: There are no explicit plans soon, though deals sometimes happen.
Q: How far is Anytype from becoming sustainable?
A: This is a moving target because as operations scale, the target moves. We are happy to meet with organizations regarding B2B needs to support sustainability.
Q: Is there a focus on Enterprise or Universities?
A: The focus is on collaboration in organizations in general. Typically, it makes more sense for small-to-medium sized orgs for now—this can be businesses, non-profits, universities, etc. Large enterprise adoption is further in the future due to the high hurdles required for those types of organizations, however it can definitely make sense for Anytype to be used in smaller teams within an enterprise.
